Why am I so nervous about this? Well, last time this started it ended up with his staying in the hospital for a few more days. Will went into acidosis meaning his blood sugar and ketones went out of control! We were on high watch from every doctor and nurse on the hospital floor until Will was out of the woods. It was some of the scariest days of my life and I never want to relive them! So, here I watch and try to determine...stomach bug or a level screw up...
Well, tonight is one of those times that I find myself second guessing every move Will makes! It started about 3 weeks ago with a single vomit. We checked his levels...blood sugar was high (95) and ketones were low (3.2). After he vomited though, he felt great! Off to bed he went and not another thought about it...until the next week when it happened again. Same results though... puked once and then felt great! So, imagine the little concern on my face when it happened again tonight (well I thought anyways). Now, it is close to midnight and poor Will has continued to vomit. What started as a normal blood sugar reading (50-70) has quickly increased to over 110 and his ketones have fallen to 1.4 (supposed to be between 4-5). So, now I sit here watching every move he is making and checking his levels about every other hour.

Spending the day having many more tests done at Cincinnati Children's with this handsome fellow! Cholesterol has been high and vitamin D really, really low. Trying to stabilize/tweak his therapy so we can get all his numbers in line. Many children with epilepsy also have a higher possibility of learning/emotional disabilities...so we have met with about 5 doctors to complete cognition and ability testing to establish a baseline for current and future treatments. He keeps telling the doctors that he is just so happy that God and his Keto therapy help him not get "lost" anymore!! Love this kid! |
